I am a graphic artist that adopted pottery over the last 15 years. I
took a pottery class through San Juan College and was immediately
hooked for life. I make things with clay because it brings me joy. I
have studied from other artists, put in years of practice and learned
the art and skill of throwing on a pottery wheel. I never get tired of
doing it. Taking a ball of clay and turning it into something beautiful
and functional is the best feeling. I love it! I have taken many
workshops to fine tune my skills which includes glass slumping. Hand
building has also been added to my repertoire, which has opened a
whole new world of possibilities with added texture. Glazing is such a
mystical part of this process. I have learned not to take for granted
a piece that successfully comes out of the bisque and glaze firing in
one piece. There are times when the clay and glaze don't play well
together and it can be disastrous. Opening the kiln is like opening
gifts on Christmas morning..magical..every single time.!
I now have my own pottery studio in Farmington, NM. It consists of
two pottery wheels, a slab roller, bat system, pottery forms and
cutters, boxes of clay, glazes, an electric kiln and way too many tools
to count. I'm obsessed.!
My inspiration comes from other art genres, lines and textures, along
with the satisfaction of replacing plastic items with my beautiful pots!
